An average 1,000-pound horse produces 9 tons of manure a year, 50 pounds per day, containing valuable fertilizer elements. Add to that an additional cubic foot of bedding material and you get 730 cubic feet/year from one horse. Manure management in pastures depends primarily on getting good distribution of manure across the pasture.
The Rotary SMART Spreader is the most ecological manure spreader to use because the manure is shred into small pieces that dry out and incorporate faster into the soil returning nutrients, enzymes, and microbial organisms to the soil much more quickly than the traditional "clumpy" spread. Pictured above, left is a typical spread laid out by the Rotary SMART Spreader. The center picture shows the two different mesh sizes, our original and the optional Mega Mesh. Pictured above right, is the optional Mega Mesh.
